Just because I'm bored

It's graduation season, so I've been pretty busy with that the past few weeks. Of course, I blogged about my sister's card – the craft gone bad – previously. Luckily, it was a big hit last weekend at Mary's party. I think it was obvious that a lot of work – though not perfect work – had gone into it, so that impressed some of the family members.

It's hard to believe that Mary is done with high school now – and that my parents are done raising kids. Where did the time go? I always remember Mary as a little kid, now she's going to college. It doesn't seem like so long ago that I was headed off to Drake, though apparently, it was (yikes) eight years ago.

This weekend, I'll be heading back to Iowa for another graduation. This time, for my cousin Joe, who's graduating from Dowling. That one's hard to believe, too. I remember riding down to Branson with little Mary and little Joe in the back seat, chanting, "We want the Presleys, we want them now." That went on for about three hours – it seemed annoying at the time, but it's cute now.

In non-graduation news, I ordered a digital camera from Best Buy a few days ago. This was very exciting for me, since I haven't had a functioning digital camera in about two years. I figured I needed one before my big trip to the Dominican Republic (only three weeks away!!), and I hope it will help make my blog much more aesthetically pleasing. Hopefully, it will last longer than my first one, which took about 10 pictures and then went on strike – permanently.

I'm too much of a perfectionist to do crafts

I had this brilliant idea about what to get my little sis for her high school graduation this weekend. Since she'll be going to college in the Twin Cities (University of St. Thomas) and she is a Broadway fanatic, we decided to get her season tickets to the 07-08 Broadway season in Minneapolis. By we, I mean my parents are helping to pay for it, because we had to get two season tickets so she doesn't have to go alone (and maybe one of her sisters can go with her) – putting the price tag in the $350 range.

Anyway, I won't actually have the tickets until sometime in September, which meant there was nothing tangible to give her at her graduation party. That's when I got my second brilliant idea: Make a book, using the fancy software I have free access to at work. That part was actually pretty easy. I went online to find pictures from all six shows that she's going to get to see, wrote little descriptions of each of them, fashioned a cute layout, etc.

So tonight, I decided to use some scrapbooking sticker things to do a frame around each "page" of the book, three-hole punch it, then tie it together with pretty blue yarn. I then had to go buy yarn, a three-hole punch, nice paper and the scrapbook stickers things – and glue and a pencil.

So after about five painstaking hours of messing around with the stupid scrapbook stickers, I've determined that I'm not cut out for craft work. And since I'm too much of a perfectionist, I'm going to have to redo three of the pages and go buy new stickers because, unfortunately, I'm not happy with the way they turned out.

So for the rest of this week, I will be going blind working on my first and last craft project.
