I wonder how it starts

I have a new story to add to the annals of my stupidity. On Tuesday night, I went to see the movie "American Gangster." It was supposed to start at 7:40, and we were in the theater at 7:38 (I checked the time on my cell phone) but the movie had already started.

I was confused, I checked the time on my cell phone again, and yes – it was still not quite 7:40. So why had the movie already started, I wondered? And why is everyone already seated in here – since when does everybody show up early for a movie?

We sat down anyways, and I tried to get a grasp on what was going on in the movie. It occured to me that maybe the movie was showing on two screens, and we were at the wrong one, but it seemed plausible that the movie was indeed just start starting.

Denzel Washington's drug-dealer character was buying his mother a house and soon thereafter met his wife-to-be, and Russell Crowe's cop character was forming an anti-narcotics task force. So I quickly got into the movie and was pleasantly surprised by how good it was.

We get out of the theater, and I head to the bathroom. And sure enough, we discover that the movie was indeed playing on two different screens – and we, of course, had gone to the wrong one. The movie we saw had started at 6:40 – we missed an entire hour!!

No wonder it seemed like the people in the theater were looking at us weird when we walked in and sat down – we were an hour late. But it was still a really good movie, I can't wait to find out how it starts!
